Hey there! I'm Touza. So... if you're going to take me home either for a while or permanently it is best I tell you a little about myself. And I want to be honest up front. I came to VicDRG when I was only five months old and everyone told me I was such a great dog and a real wuss. But then things went bad for me, people I loved didn't do the right thing by me, and I've learnt not to trust humans (until I know them) or other dogs.
I found a really great foster home and they were working with me and they wrote most of below for me. But they had to go back to Ireland and now I'm kenneled. And I had more bad luck because then something bit me and I get really sick and had to go to emergency. They thought I was lovely and a wuss too but I do now have immune-mediated polyarthritis brought on by the anaphylactic shock and I am on medication while I'm treated for that. It makes my joints sore but I'm getting better. I I really just want my chance but you have to understand me and be patient and work with the people who love me.
Chats with my humans that I love are the best. I'm a great listener and just so you know my focus is on you I'll tilt my head and wag my tail. I love my creature comforts - a warm heater, a soft bed and a nice bit of rawhide. My favourite foods are eggs and coconut oil. Yum. I also enjoy watching TV and I'll quite happily sit in your lap and lick your face for hours. Only if you let me though. I know some humans aren't too keen on doggy kisses.
Shadows can keep me occupied for hours. I'll admit I'm a little obsessed and I LOVE it when my foster family plays with their little torch and they let me chase the moving shadows around the room. Oooh my tail is wagging right now. Shadows. Shadows....now where was I? Oh, playing with my ball is another favourite pastime. I'll always place the ball in your lap when I want to play. I love you humans but sometimes you need subtle hints to get the message. Sigh..
Okay, what else. Apparently I snore a LOT when I sleep. A handsome boy like myself needs a lot of beauty sleep. I'm not a morning dog and I'll admit I do not appreciate being woken up. My foster family says that I sulk when they try to get me up early but that is just my morning face. A total misunderstanding I assure you.
Now if we are going to share our lives I need to be even more honest with you and I guess we should chat about my training. I'm house trained. My foster family and I are working really hard on me getting used to other dogs as I can be a little unfriendly and need to work on my socialisation. We'd be so happy if I got the the stage where I could share my family with another dog. Deep down I know I'd love a doggy friend. I've always lived with dogs in the past and I have a special doggy friend now but it just needs to be one that understands me. Surely you get that. I just need a little time and practice and for the time being my support team tell me that's not where we are going to start.
Let's just say I'm a work in progress and my new family will need to be as dedicated as I am to my training. Generally I am quite obedient. You just need to let me know you're the boss because then I feel safe.
I'm an enthusiastic dog and sometimes my size sees me accidentally bump people so most likely I would be best with an adult family. But, if I get over-excited or a little anxious just rub my chest. You'll have me calmed down in no time.
I'm scared of a couple of things. Thunderstorms don't bother me but the wind makes me feel unsettled. One other thing is sometimes I feel uncomfortable when meeting men who are tall with a stocky build. That's something from my past that I'm trying to work through. Once I know I'm safe though I will warm up to you quickly as long as you give me attention.
Be my family. Please....I'll love you to the moon and back.
