Orlando has had a hard start to his young life and thankfully, he is now on the road to see all that change.

We will never know why Orlando found himself in a rural pound, but he was not doing well in that environment; only 12 months old, no home and not desexed. VicDRG rescued him and placed him with a foster carer and on arrival at his foster carer’s home, Orlando went under the bed and that is where he stayed for days! He only came out to eat his food and use his litter tray when no-one was about. Finally, he came out, but would not accept being touched. Although he would let his carer near him, with never a hiss or swipe, he would not allow his carer to put her hands on him or over his head or back.

As he would not be handled, we were unable to attend the vet for some time and then there were a couple of aborted attempts. Finally, we took him to the vet for an overall health check and desexing, only to discover this poor boy had puncture wounds from his neck, all down the back of his spine – he had obviously been attacked and was wearing the marks. From the wounds, he had an infection running beneath his skin, down his side andunder surgery, he was treated for multiple under-skin abscesses. No wonder Orlando never wanted to be touched and thankfully, he is FIV negative.

He is curious about his new home and will now venture outside his safe space to explore and will gently wander about, checking out the environment.

He loves to play with his toys and the way to his heart is food! He will happily come for his meals or some special treats.

Orlando is a beautiful, gentle soul with a very shy manner. Due to his experiences, it may take some time before Orlando will be comfortable being touched and he will be most suited to a quiet home, without loud noises or sudden movements. His prospective adopter will need to be patient and not have expectations of a lap cat immediately, however, we think there may be a lap-cat tucked inside Orlando, but only time and trust will tell.

As Orlando has developed security and trust with his new-found, feline, friends, we would like to rehome Orlando with one of them.

Do you have it in your heart to take on this beautiful, gentle boy and a friend? We know that over time he will repay you manyfold.

Since his recuperation, Orlando is coming along in leaps and bounds. Now that he is desexed, he has been able to meet his foster siblings and he happily plays with them; in fact, runs looking for them in the morning, waiting for them to join him in play.
