Breed: Male Wolfhound x
Weight: 37 kgs
Please note: Floyd would prefer to live with another dog that is a good playmate for him.
Floyd is a real character, a friendly boy who loves pats so much he will press his head into your hand for a pat or, even better, a head scratch. And if you stop scratching, you will find a giant paw in your lap to remind you to continue. He sometimes talks (quietly) in his sleep, likes to play with his cat brothers and enjoys gentle walks with humans or other dogs
Floyd is friendly with new dogs but can be over excited. He is learning to control his enthusiasm when a new dog wants to play but usually needs a few meetings with a new doggy friend before he is calm enough to enjoy their company. With people he is calm and sociable and walks gently in a harness on a short lead, though he may pull in eagerness to meet a new dog (something we are working on with him). Floyd needs at least one daily 30 minute walk but would happily go for more than one or longer walks if you are willing to take him. Also be prepared to be stopped frequently when you are walking him. This boy gets a lot of attention from people and he loves every minute of it.
We think Floyd's friendly and playful nature means he will be best suited to a home with at least one human at home for most of the day, and he will need to be inside during the day, as he can become anxious when left alone in a backyard. He is totally house-trained and will ask to go outside if no doggy door is available. Floyd can be sensitive chap, he doesn't like to get his feet wet and he doesn't like being yelled at but happily responds to quietly spoken commands.
Floyd has been known to sneak onto his humans’ bed at night, but will sleep soundly in his dog bed and follow house rules if you insist. He can be a little boisterous and possessive with toys, so supervision is recommended while he and his new housemates get used to each other. He also really likes cats, so much that he will initiate play with them - and even groom them! But he is a big boy and can be rough with the cats - his cat foster brother doesn't mind this at all but not all cats will be so accommodating!! We suggest that any cats in his new home meet him under close supervision so his enthusiasm isn’t misunderstood.
Floyd is very food oriented and, due to his size, we recommend that food (even on tables and benches) not be left temptingly around, since .... well, Floyd really loves his food, your food, unattended food, anybody’s food. As in all cases, we recommend that Floyd be fed in a separate area from other pets.
Floyd’s size and love of adventure mean he needs a home with high, secure fences as he has a love of adventure and the long legs to find it.
