Breed: Male Wolfhound x
Weight: 37 kgs
Yes it’s me Floyd Devereux. You might have seen me before, I’ve been looking for a home for a long time. I’m a big boofy adorable boy but my foster carer also tells me I’m a bit of a challenge. You will fall in love with me, I promise, but you might also get frustrated with me.
My foster carer calls me an opportunist, she says this is the nice way of saying naughty. If I see an open door or an open gate, I see an opportunity for an adventure. If I see you chasing me, I see an opportunity for a game. If you put some food on the table and walk away, I see an opportunity for a snack and guess what? I can reach the kitchen bench without even jumping!
At 47kg, I am a big strong boy. I love my walks and need regular exercise, 30-60 mins per day. I walk pretty good on the lead, but I do like to pull if I smell something interesting. If I don’t get the walks I need, I have been known to jump the fence and walk myself, so a secure yard is a must.
Let me tell you about me and my relationship with other dogs: “It’s complicated.” I like some dogs a lot, I would really like to play with those ones, but I play pretty rough and I can scare them away. On the other hand, I think it’s important that certain dogs understand I’m the boss. I don’t want to hurt them, I just want them to fall into line, but my foster carer told me I’m too big to do that and I have to be more careful. That is why she won’t let me be off lead when we go for walks.
But can I live with another dog? The answer is, it depends on the dog! Not every dog will appreciate the Floydness of me. My best match will not be scared by me or my size and won’t mind if I’m the boss. I also wouldn’t mind being an only dog if my people are home a lot, and can take me for lots of walks. I especially love it when we meet people on our walks and they pat me and tell me I’m handsome (you can’t argue with the truth). I am pretty independent but I will need company, especially while I settle in. If you leave me alone too long, yes I will try to leave home because I need your company. We can negotiate just how long is too long.
Something else I like is cats and mostly they like me too. I’ll admit I do like to chase them at first, especially if they run away from me (my foster carer says I’m a typical sighthound whatever that means), but once they are used to me we can be friends. If they don’t mind a bit of slobber I will even groom them!
Mostly what I am looking for is a family who is patient, who will love me, who will forgive me my naughtiness and importantly give me the boundaries I need.
