Matti and Martha Wilberforce came to us as two seniors surrendered in very poor condition. They needed a lot of vetwork but they were worth it.
Their adopter says:
“Both are so good on walks now, with only rare barks when other dogs are passing (and only happens when they are walked together).
They live a very spoiled life: lots of beds and toys, Lyka diet, twice daily walks (weather permitting), love from every human they meet, human present 24/7 (a relative dogsits if my partner and I go out together without them), etc.
Martha has even claimed my dad’s lap and gets lots of cuddles from him (as a note, he only likes big dog breeds so she’s wormed her way into his heart very well).
Matti confidently comes for attention when he wants it, even if Martha is nearby. He also stands his ground more with her (like not just letting her take a toy off him if he’s playing and he hasn’t invited her to join), but still lets her be the princess when it doesn’t infringe on him.
Matti is also keeper of the clock. If we’re distracted and don’t notice it’s 1 minute past meal time, he comes and tells us.
Martha has also found all the spots on the bed to use to avoid being disrupted by us moving in our sleep. Matti prefers to use the bedroom couch, which is unofficially “Matti’s couch”. It’s rare he’ll cuddle on the bed, but sometimes we find him sprawled out (and usually upsidedown with legs in the air) having a day nap on it.
The best times are when they both feel good in the joints and have post-eating energy and chase each other from one end of the house to the other in some kind of white fluffy blur game of tag! Doesn’t go longer than 5 mins before they get tired, but it’s beautiful to watch.”
