NB: We do not rehome interstate or to applicants under 25. It is our policy not to rehome dogs in the Sunraysia area. As rescue groups have transported thousands of homeless dogs from Mildura and Sunraysia pounds over the last decade, we do not intend to send any back there.

Asha has been a loved only dog all her life, in the one home since a puppy.  Unfortunately, the family’s health issues do not allow them to keep her.

She has all the attributes of a dog that has been an inside dog all her life – well house trained and so on, used to sleeping on a dog bed in her person’s room.

She has been used to staying with a small dog sometimes (a dashy) and got on fine, but separated for feeding as she is territorial with food. She is also much more human focussed than dog focussed and would prefer to live as an only dog.

Asha is lead reactive when a dog approaches her, although this seems to occur more with small yappy dogs. In the past when she was walked regularly she might lunge at a dog that came too close but very manageable if just kept walking on.

When she was allowed off leash she was more interested in sniffing but had to be careful she didn’t eat something she shouldn’t, like discarded takeaway food. However now she is hard of hearing she has little recall, but in a safe area with a muzzle on to stop her consuming food this may be okay.

Asha has never met a cat.

During the day she is laid back and sleeps quite a lot. She is on anti inflammatory medicine for her arthritic hips and she enjoys her long walks, sometimes in a puppy like way, other days like senior she is.

She may need help getting into the back seat of a car and a lot of stairs would not be good for her. Once in a car she travels well and usually just sleeps on her dog bed on the back seat.

Her family has left her for up to 8 hours with no issues. She is happy and animated when strangers visit, although initially barking to make sure they are acceptable to her family.

Asha’s big issue is she a resource guarder, usually just of food, but occasionally of a toy in her mouth. Of course, this can be easily dealt with by giving her a higher value item rather than trying to take out of her mouth.

Asha is a gentle dog overall, who will miss her family initially, but will settle in the right home, where she is valued as the senior she is. Asha still has a lot to give.

Medical Notes: Senile nuclear Sclerosis, arthritis in hips, loss of some hearing.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. All necessary vet work such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment is also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.
