BEACH LOVING ADOPTER WANTED

Meet Harry (Harissa), a gentle, affectionate, playful, beach loving pup. This may not show at first, as Harry shows to be anxious around new people, places and situations. However, with patience, assurance and positive training, Harry comes out of her shell and reveals the amazing dog that she is.

Harry generally walks well on the lead, but can be reactive towards other dogs, especially when out walking with her extended pack as opposed to by one person. Her foster family have been working on this daily with her, using positive commands and rewards during one of her twice daily, 30 minutes walks. This approach has shown to help reduce her reactiveness and with further training we believe this can be eliminated.

Off lead, Harry is friendly with other dogs and especially loves running around the beach with her dog friends. She loves a good splash in the ocean, but has yet to figure out the art of swimming itself. Equally so, Harry does not mind getting a hose down on her return.

Harry gets on well with the other dogs in her house, but does need guidance and a firmness to understand when another dog is not interested. When another dog is willing to play, she is great at adjusting her play to the needs of the other dog (e.g. smaller dogs), sharing her toys and aims to keep the game going for as long as she can rather than showing a desire to win. She is also just as happy to play solo.

Harry is highly motivated by rewards and has received a lot of training from her foster family as well as through 1:1 sessions. She needs training to continue in her forever home, to help her continue her journey to be the best dog.

Harry is house trained and is able to use a doggie door during the day. She sleeps in her bed next to her foster parents, but as she is a naturally ‘hot’ dog she will often find a cooler space around the house to get her beauty sleep.

Harry has the potential to be a great dog, given the right family. She is looking for a home where her family understands her anxieties and has the patience and strong, confident but caring leadership to help her overcome these. Continued training is essential.  During her time with her foster family, she has shown that with the right guidance and in the right environment her anxieties and consequential behaviours can reduce. Ideally her family will be home most of the time and include her in their outings. She would love a well-matched play mate, a dog that is well trained, calm, and confident and one who models good behaviours for her to follow. Oh, and of course a location close to the local dog beach.

Are you the beach loving family for Harry? She can’t wait to meet you!

Adults/teenage home only.
