NB: We do not rehome interstate or to applicants under 25. It is our policy not to rehome dogs in the Sunraysia area. As rescue groups have transported thousands of homeless dogs from Mildura and Sunraysia pounds over the last decade, we do not intend to send any back there.

Breed: Male Shih Tzu X
DOB: 03/08/2012
Weight: 10kgs
Location: Carnegie

Kamo packs a lot into a small package. He’s a wonderfully friendly companion and while he might only be 10kg, he has the energy of a much bigger dog.

Going for a walk is the highlight of his day. He dances around with excitement when you’re trying to put his harness on. After 45mins of running around a park, greeting and chasing all the dogs, he still has energy for more! After spending his first years living on a farm this is probably no surprise, and he is often confused with being a younger dog because of his of liveliness.

He’s very alert and smart, always interested in watching what’s going on and learns quickly. He’s quite responsive and will come when called and sits for treats. He’ll also suddenly appear if you’re preparing or eating chicken (his favourite food) just in case a piece falls on the ground.

He’s OK on a lead but likes to pull and charge ahead, and he’ll try to walk as fast as he can, even if that means dragging his foster siblings along with him. He loves to greet every dog he meets along the way, and is always very friendly. However, if he can’t greet them he gets upset and will howl and bark until the other dog is out of sight. While his lead walking has improved he still needs further work and would benefit from more training and socialisation.

Kamo loves his humans and the more time he spends with them the more that he trusts them. This trust will make training much easier. Since he has a lot of energy he will really benefit from an active lifestyle.

Once he’s had his morning exercise he likes to be near his people. When working from home he’s usually snoozing on a dog bed nearby or finding some quiet time in another part of the house. He sleeps well at night with his foster siblings in the living room.

Kamo is house trained and in his current foster home he’s picked a spot on the couch as his own. He gets along with his doggy foster siblings and would probably enjoy an active friendly dog, big or small, as a companion.

He’ll need to learn how to use a dog door and will spend most of his time indoors as he really thrives around people and is very sociable. He loves hugs and cuddles and will roll onto his back for tummy rubs. He also gets great enjoyment from car rides.

New noises and movements can spook him and he might not be well suited to a household with young children. Kamo loves peace and quiet in his home. He’s untested with cats.  Kamo is surprisingly timid sometimes and we wonder if it is his background.  When his foster sibling first barked he went and hid under the bed.   Even if you are outside he will often race back inside to the comfort of his inside place – perhaps this is because of his previous life as an outside dog locked out for much of his life.  He also gets very worried by loud voices, and unexpected noises.  This makes him an interesting personality with his natural energy combined with his need for reassurance.

Kamo is a sweet and affectionate dog with lots of charm and personality. He’ll be a very rewarding and active companion.

Adults/teenage home only.
