NB: We do not rehome interstate or to applicants under 25. It is our policy not to rehome dogs in the Sunraysia area. As rescue groups have transported thousands of homeless dogs from Mildura and Sunraysia pounds over the last decade, we do not intend to send any back there.

Hi, my name is Ralph and, yes, I am as smart as I am good looking 😊. I need a new family because a change at home means I am being left out of the action a lot, which makes me pretty sad. I love my people more than anything and want to be able to spend time indoors and out with you. I am friendly with visitors and people I meet when we are out adventuring together. I have not had much experience with little ones but I do know how to keep all my paws on the ground when seeking your attention.

I love my daily walks, games that stimulate my mind, and zoomies in the backyard. My current family have a farm and I absolutely love having a big run there, and am pretty good at coming back when I am called (you know, occasionally sniffing out a rabbit distracts me!). I am housetrained but may need some gentle reminders about house rules as I’ve been living outside for quite a few months. I know how to sit, drop and respond to my people when we are out walking, and I love to learn. When I’m allowed inside, I am pretty good at sticking to the places I’m allowed to be, although I might sneak a snack off the kitchen bench when you’re not looking. I can handle some alone time, as long as I have a view of the world; I can get a bit noisy if I can’t see what’s going on. I enjoy going for drives and feeling the wind in my ears. I do have to get my hair done and I’m a pretty good boy when I’m at the groomers. I like some dogs and not others, and people say I am too interested in cats.

Ralph is a loving and healthy pup in need of dog-experienced people who can include him in their lives and continue the training he needs to be the best boy he can be. While he is typically friendly and loving with people, his behaviour with other dogs is at times unpredictable, ranging from being uninterested to loose and happy to snappy with older dogs or dogs who correct him when he is hyped up. When highly triggered by the presence of other dogs, Ralph has also snapped at his handlers while they are correcting him. Our behaviourist has recommended he be trained in wearing a muzzle so that everyone, including Ralph, can relax when he is out and mixing with other pups. This would also provide the foundation for continued rewards-based training so that Ralph can improve his reliability around other dogs, as he does enjoy their company, as well as being with his people at local cafes and other public places.

We feel Ralph would do well in a home with another dog that matches his energy levels or is also a spaniel breed – a family home with a decent yard with older teenage children or with an active couple. At this stage a home without cats or other pets would be best. Ralph is a potential fitness partner but can manage with one good walk a day plus play time and puzzles that give him mental as well as physical stimulation. Ralph’s new family should also research and understand his breed before adopting.

This smart and happy boy will bring love and fun to his new family, as well as the rewards of seeing him respond to continued training that builds his confidence and public manners. If Ralph’s big brown eyes are calling you, please reach out as he is waiting for you.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. All necessary vet work such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment is also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.
