Rusty is ready to shine.
Rusty has joined us after a few stressful changes in his life and is already winning hearts. This happy little chappy enjoys people and pups alike. He loves stepping out for one or two short daily walks with his carer, fascinated by the wide new world, sniffing and observing.
Rusty loves to play a rousing game of fetch with a tennis ball, but is not fanatical. He is very attuned to humans and enjoys their attention, including daily belly rubs. He politely doesn’t jump up on people. Rusty enjoys company but has shown himself in care to be fine when left alone for part of the day with indoor-outdoor access. This boy is housetrained, excited to travel in the car and knows a few basic commands and words, including sitting for his dinner, bickie, ball and when being harnessed.
We suspect Rusty has not had regular walks in the past so is absolutely delighted with his new daily opportunities to get out and about to sniff the doorways, parks, and paths, showing himself to be friendly with all he meets along the way. He often walks slowly while inspecting the surroundings.
At home, Rusty can be a bit rough on his toys and loose bedding (but thankfully not with other household items) and when he is self-grooming in his bed. A purpose bought chew toy is his favourite item. These are signs of anxiety probably related to his life changes and we think they will ease as Rusty settles and is secure with his new family. He sleeps perfectly through the night in a dog bed near his carer.
Rusty would love to join a couple, a senior person or smaller family with older children where he has attention and company but is not too overstimulated by the hubbub of life. He may do well with another friendly relaxed dog but could also fly solo with regular opportunities to socialise. Given his Jack Russell traits, a home without cats and pocket pets would be best. Although, Rusty is not a typical Jack Russell in that he isn’t high energy. Adores mental stimulation, but doesn’t go rushing about. A generally quiet little man who goes for peaceful, leisurely walks. Rusty is looking for a home with a garden, and people who are happy for sniff walks rather than exercise walks.
He may be okay on his own during work hours provided he has plenty of quality daily time with his people. Rusty is a smart and curious boy who will benefit from regular short periods of exercise, mental stimulation and further training to build both his confidence and the bond with his new people. He will reward them with love, loyalty and laughs aplenty.
If you’ve taken a shine to Rusty, he would love to hear from you.
