Puppus Uchello is in his new home
Breed: Male Jack Russell Terrier x
Weight: 10 kgs
Please note: Puppus will be rehomed as an only dog, with no cats please.
Puppus is a beautiful boy, essentially a homebody and very human focused. He likes to always be around you though he enjoys his own space. Being in the same room or area with his human makes him very relaxed. He wants to know where you are but doesn’t want to be up close and cuddly all of the time. When Puppus chooses to sit close by, he loves pats and will offer his head or his back for a massage or his tummy for a rub. He even squats with both paws up for this. His sideways looks or raised paws let you know he’s not keen for you to stop just yet. He is keener on pats than cuddles. He loves a scratch behind the ears and at the top of his chest.
He loves his daily walks and playing fetch with his toys. When you are working in the garden he loves to sniff around and explore or sunbake on the deck. Playing with Puppus is such fun and his amazing tail wagging is pure delight. His favourite toys are soft plush ones with squeakers inside. He lets you know when he’s ready to play by bringing a toy to you or with a look, toward you and then toward the toy. When he’s had enough of the game he’ll just leave the toy a little beyond your reach and choose a comfy place for another nap.
Puppus is very well mannered. He’ll stand back from the gate when you’re coming home from the shops. He is happy to see you but doesn’t jump all over you. He loves his food but doesn’t rush in or scoff it down too quickly. He doesn’t bark at a knock at the door. Nothing seems to bother Puppus around the home such as vacuuming, kitchen appliances or other household noise. However this is how he is behaving in a quiet area where he is familiar with the noises. In a brief stop in an unfamiliar environment he did bark when left alone.
He seems to like tv, radio and music. He travels well in the car.
He is very cooperative about brushing, bathing, taking medication (tablets) and having ointment applied for his grass allergy.
At bedtime, Puppus likes to have a blanket or sheet completely over him. He feels the cold and usually needs to have a jumper on first thing until the day warms up. On warmer nights it’s better to only use a sheet under and over him as he can overheat and that disturbs his sleep.
Puppus can be anxious but once he knows the sounds and movements of your routine, he won’t always get up from a nap to see what you’re up to. He doesn’t like you to be out of your sight for too long so it would be as well to build up your time away from him but he really needs someone that isn’t gone for more than a few hours at a time, or he will stress.
This boy is reactive to other dogs but has improved his responses with ongoing training and little treat rewards. Walks with Puppus are mostly pleasurable but you do need to be alert to the whereabouts of other dogs. At this stage he should not be exposed to other dogs in close proximity because it puts him into a reactive frame and he is likely to pull or lunge. His adopter will continue to work with this and as he gains confidence.

Puppus does seem to have a poor reaction to grass and will be best with a paved courtyard or similar so he is not exposed to grass unduly during the day.
