Sometimes we delay posting the loss of our dogs as we have with Gossamer. She came from a puppy farm and her time with VicDRG and her adopter was too short.

If love could have saved you, Gossamer, you would have lived forever.

“We sadly had to make a decision to let Gossy go the week before Xmas. Gossy had developed Inflammatory Bowel Disease and we had been managing her health very well, however recently she declined very suddenly and rapidly and we could not get her back to a place of wellbeing despite no expense spared and the very best veterinary support from her dedicated vet, as well as an additional team of vets and a specialist. Ultimately we made the very hard decision to put her wellness and quality of life at the forefront and made the heartbreaking call to let her pass. Personally I feel like a piece of me is missing and as a family we miss her terribly. She stole our hearts from day one and the world just does not seem the same without her.

The blessing that 2020 brought, was I got to work from home for most of the year, the two girls and I spent every day together pretty much on top of each other. Our study is at the front of the house with a massive window looking out to the world, the girls’ massive day bed is at the window and my desk only 2 feet behind. Together we worked and watched the weather, the trees, the people and dogs go by, and had the opportunity for extra hugs and kisses. Just being in each others’ company and so close was wonderful, to look up from my screens to see a couple of sets of eyes on you became the norm, along with loud snoring or someone (Gossy) blowing wind that would make my eyes water !

It is a period that I would not trade for the world and am grateful all the more since her passing.

The impact of the years she had lived prior to being rescued had never left her. She never played and was still shy, but she was brave. There were precious moments where you could clearly see the cheekiness in her and oh man did we loved her just as she was. Our other girl Meika who turned 15 yesterday misses her. While they never played like other dogs, they were company for each other. Our motive every day was to let Gossy know she was loved and most of all know she was wanted and was our pack.

I have attached some pics of her I thought you might like. One in particular looks a bit boring of her on the bed in her love heart pyjamas, but the note that is with it explains why it is special. And if you know how hard it was for this little one to come out of her shell and recover from the life she had, you will know why this picture and all the others of her getting on and living her best are so special.

I want to say thank you Trisha to you and the team for firstly saving Gossy (and Gwyneth, who probably has another name now) and allowing her to be part of our family, and for all VicDRG does on every level. I cannot find the words that put value to what you all do, just know you have the thanks of many.”
