Buddy is a gorgeous bundle of enthusiasm who unfortunately has missed the early training he needs to help him to be a good canine citizen. The good news is Buddy is smart, friendly and keen to please and a great candidate for development with a large dog experienced person or family.
Buddy is house trained and travels well in the car. He is used to indoor-outdoor living but seems to have had pretty limited indoor time with his people. Buddy is still in young dog exploration stage and is known to chew on toys and contraband objects when unsupervised. We suspect these behaviours will reduce when Buddy is in a home where he has greater interaction, exercise and mental stimulation, and where he learns boundaries through consistent positive reinforcement.
Buddy has had no obedience training and limited exposure to the world. He is very strong on lead and has not yet been shown how to manage his impulses, although he seems generally fine with other dogs and uninterested in cats. Buddy will need rewards-based training and engagement activities in his new home to form a bond with his people, expend his mental energy and help him learn the ropes. Given his size and strength, Buddy will need confident handlers who can manage his youthful enthusiasms while he learns, and provide him with the leadership and life experiences he needs to become the best dog he can be.
Buddy needs to be in a large dog savvy home with people who understand the effects of undersocialisation on puppy behaviour and celebrate the joy of helping a dog overcome this. Given Buddy’s size and enthusiasms, we think he would do better in a household with teenagers and above. He will love being able to be part of the family but should be okay with outdoor access being left for some periods while his people are at work or school. Buddy is new to our care and we will update his profile as we get to know him better.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. All necessary vet work such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment is also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.
