“I’m learning inside is a good place to be!”

Mickey is used to being an outdoors dog and we are in the process of teaching Mickey to enjoy being inside.  In this photo he is waiting outside the door whilst his dinner is prepared, after which he will now happily come inside and eat before taking himself back outside.  He is rapidly learning that inside is a good place to be and where his people are.  At the same time, we have commenced toilet training Mickey and as he is a smart cookie, we feel this will be easily achieved.

To best understand Mickey Elphinstone, you need to understand his past life:

As a puppy Mickey became the companion of an 83 YO gentleman, who was an avid vegetable gardener.  For 10 years Mickey lived with his elderly person, until at 93 YO, his elderly person died, leaving Mickey, at 10 YO, in need of a new family.  Even though Mickey was an outdoor dog, Mickey has been well loved.

Mickey is used to his person being in the garden with him.  He loves to quietly sit by his person’s side, with his head on your lap or with your hand on his body.  He loves to chase a ball and will bring the ball right back to your seat and give it to you, once more sitting by your side.

Mickey’s prior job had obviously been ‘protector of the vegetables’, as he runs around looking up and happily chases birds out of the garden.  We can imagine his person having shoed the birds away, and Mickey having taken this on as his responsibility.

Mickey has an abundance of enthusiasm and love of life.  He is a happy dog, who loves people.  Mickey does a happy wiggle whenever his foster carer arrives home – he sits respectfully, however, cannot contain his happiness and shuffles along on his backside.

Fortunately for Mickey, in his prior home, the grandkids took Mickey for his daily walk, therefore, he is good on lead and happily walks beside his walker at human pace.  He is energetic and will do well with two walks a day for a reasonable period.

Due to his love of people an ideal home for Mickey will be where his family are home most of the time.  He would do well with another respectful dog for company and Mickey is also good with cats; mostly he ignores them.  We would not recommend a home with an aviary!

Mickey understands to sit for his meals, go to his bed, he comes when called and will happily shake hands with you.  He is a smart boy, who learns quickly.  He loves to keep you company on a car ride and is a good passenger.

Mickey is a medium sized dog, about the size of an Australian Cattle Dog, weighing 19 kg.

Mickey is a delight and will be the best buddy for a person happy to have a little shadow, devotedly, following you around.

Mickey cannot wait to meet his new family and do his happy wiggle, just for you.

Mickey is not cat tested.
