NB: We do not rehome interstate or to applicants under 25. It is our policy not to rehome dogs in the Sunraysia area. As rescue groups have transported thousands of homeless dogs from Mildura and Sunraysia pounds over the last decade, we do not intend to send any back there.

Breed: Male Maltese/cross
DOB: 17/11/2023
Weight: 6.0 kg
Location: Brooklyn

Howie is a sweet, quiet and affectionate little Maltese who loves being close to his people. Once he trusts you, he becomes a loyal companion who enjoys nothing more than curling up on the couch or snuggling beside his humans. He has a gentle nature and a funny, puppy-like personality that will keep you smiling.

Howie enjoys following his humans around, joining them on walks, and learning from his foster dog sister. He is playful, curious, smart and eager to learn, having already made great progress with his toilet training and confidently using doggy doors by following his foster sister’s example.

Howie also has lovely social skills with other dogs. He enjoys their company, loves to play, and often chooses to sleep curled up beside them. He is still learning his doggy manners, but responds well when another dog sets boundaries.

Things Howie is still learning:

Howie initially came into care feeling very timid, uncertain and unsure of his surroundings. With time, patience and a consistent routine, he has gained confidence and is showing his loving, playful personality. He will benefit from an adopter who understands that he may need a little time to settle and feel comfortable in his new home.

Howie has made great progress with his toilet training and will usually toilet when taken outside. He is doing well in his foster home but will benefit from continued routine and guidance as he settles into his forever home.

Howie currently finds being left alone challenging and can become distressed when separated from his people. He is showing improvement and finds comfort from his foster sister, but will benefit from a family who can help him gradually build confidence and independence through patience, consistency and positive support.

His ideal home:

Howie would love a home where he can be included as part of the family, be given lots of love and care and continue building his confidence. He may enjoy living with a calm, friendly dog who can show him the ropes, although he would also suit an adopter who is committed to continuing his training and helping him feel safe and secure.

If you’re looking for a loving little companion who wants to be involved in everything you do and is happiest by your side, Howie could be the perfect match. ❤️
