Elton came to us from Moira Pound in 2016. He was with a foster carer and jumped off the couch. He was then paralysed.
Elton had major surgery on the spine and the specialist told us that if he was not walking in six months he wouldn’t be able to walk again even with support, but be completely paralysed in the legs. We cannot express our thanks enough to Team Elton, a group of volunteers who joined together to make sure that Elton had all the exercise, vet, physio and hydro visits that he needed. Initially Elton could not even toilet without assistance.
It was a long road for Elton but he was such a happy boy and so easy to handle. He got such a lot of pleasure from his life and we do not regret it. A member of Team Elton adopted him:
“It was with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to our brave Elton on 14/01/2025. Elton was Mr September in the VicDog Rescue calendar 2017. We first met him when we joined “Team Elton”, a group of volunteers, who helped with his care after VicDog Rescue paid for his major spinal surgery, in a hope he would walk again.
Even though it had been a long and hard journey to try and regain the use of his back legs, he inspired us with his cheerful personality and an amazing zest for life.
He stayed happy throughout all his treatments, which were such a long ordeal, but still wagging his little tail all the way. It was an absolute privilege and pleasure to have him join our family. He brought joy and smiles to all he met. People used to stop when they saw him marching along in his little wheels to say hi and ask about his story. When he was younger, his favourite thing was to chase after the postman, rubbish truck, tram and train.
Thank you Trisha, Team Elton and VicDRG for all you did for Elton, and for all the amazing work that you do.
He will be sorely missed.”
