Darling Lewis,

We have had the privilege of fostering Lewis for the past four months and acknowledge the hard work, time and love given to him by his previous carers, particularly Manze and Caroline who came before and during our time with Lew and also our thoughts to Trisha and Leanne who never gave up on finding Lew the perfect home.

Originally Lew was a foster with a view to adopt and he came to us as a potential companion for our old lady dog Lucinda, but.. they took one look at each other and decided they were NOT friends! Lew was however best friends with my partner and he just loved her with all his little heart. Affectionately dubbed Wombat-Baby, Lew would toddle around “helping” in the garden, working on the caravan and keeping the chooks in line. He LOVED his food, his squeaky pig and being a giant stickybeak. His favourite spot was in the window, eyeballing everyone walking past and keeping up-to-date with all the neighbourhood comings and goings. As his wonky legs got worse and he stopped being able to walk long distances we would take him for long strolls in the pusher and he really enjoyed being able to keep his little eyes on what was happening in the world at large and catching up with all the friends who would stop to comment on how adorable he was! Lew was always the life of the party and when out with him we would often get stopped by people wanting to say hi or pat him or comment on just how adorable he was. He loved listening to music and being sung too, his favourite was classical, but he learned to love the 80s and 90s during his time with us.

We never expected Lew wasn’t going to come home from his last vet visit, but sadly x-rays revealed the mystery behind his increasing inability to walk was cancer related and so darling Lew sadly had to leave us. We are so thankful for the time we got to spend with him and his funny, wonky, happy ways. He was always happy to see his people and even at his sickest he still greeted us with a waggy tail and a smile. Here’s to you Lew Wordsworth, you were a darling heart and true gentleman.

With much love x
